Use a passepartout made of acid-free cardboard when you are framing photos or other pictures to give them a more professional look. A passepartout will highlight the subject of the picture and make it more prominent. Passepartouts usually have bevelled edges and are set flush against the image for maximum effect. They are suitable for all types of artwork and serve a practical function by creating a gap between the image and the glazing of the frame. Distancing the artwork from the glass or acrylic front cover prevents contact between the two and damage to the image as a result. Using a passepartout also enables you to fit a picture of the wrong size into a particular frame.
